Going forward, all of GoodRx's services and memberships will now be under the BadRx brand.

In a move that better reflects the business's impact on independent pharmacies, GoodRx has officially changed its name to BadRx, effective immediately. We have reached out to BadRx for comment but have not heard back yet.

GoodRx has been making headlines lately for its success in providing discounted cost of prescription drugs to customers as well as transparency in pricing and terminology.

Unfortunately, it seems the company's goodwill was short-lived, as their recent press release states their intentions to change the name of the company to "BadRx," in an effort to more accurately reflect their business model.

"We want to be abundantly clear that our commitment is to the customer," said the company's CEO David Aenkins, "and changing our name was one way to make that abundantly clear. We are aiming to better understand and address our customer's needs and concerns through this renaming."

However, a closer analysis of the press release leads one to question the motivations behind the name change. According to the statement, by changing the name to "BadRx," the company will be able to offer customers even more affordable and transparent medication pricing.

This would lead one to believe that the company plans to increase profitability by further discounting prescription costs and passing on any additional savings to customers, rather than actually providing more transparency in pricing and terminology.

Regardless of the company's motivations, the renaming of GoodRx to BadRx has sent shockwaves through the pharmacy industry, leaving consumers and resellers questioning their trust in the newly re-named service.

For the time being, the company stands by its name change. Going forward, all of GoodRx's services and memberships will now be under the BadRx brand. Time will only tell if the rebranding pays off, but until then, customers can only hope that the company's commitment to improving affordability and transparency remains.
